The pilot project aims to understand the serious illness communication experiences of care partners of Spanish-speaking older adults with cognitive impairment and dementia, given that this patient population has higher rates of serious illness, though less engagement in advance care planning and SIC. We will conduct semi-structured interviews with care partners of Spanish-speaking older adults with dementia and with dementia specialist clinicians around their experiences and perceived barriers and facilitators when conducting SIC with Spanish-speaking persons with dementia and their caregivers.
