Charlotte Weiss, PhD, Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, is an Assistant Professor at the University of North Carolina Wilmington and an Adjunct Assistant Professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing’s NewCourtland Center for Transitions and Health, where she completed a T32‑funded NRSA postdoctoral fellowship. She received her PhD in Nursing Science from the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus. Dr. Weiss’s program of research integrates palliative care, caregiver science, and arts‑and‑health, with a strong emphasis on qualitative and community‑engaged research methods to center the lived experiences of older adults with multiple chronic conditions, including dementia, and their family care partners. Her work focuses on understanding caregiver well‑being and translating these insights into community‑relevant, nonpharmacologic interventions, including arts‑based approaches. Over the next five years, Dr. Weiss aims to secure NIA and foundation funding to co‑develop, rigorously test, and implement scalable arts‑based supportive interventions for dementia care dyads, with attention to feasibility, equity, and real‑world uptake. Through this work, she seeks to advance dementia‑inclusive palliative care models that improve the quality of life for both older adults and those who care for them.
