Rachel McPherson, PhD, MA

Rachel McPherson, PhD, is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Maryland School of Nursing. She earned her PhD in Gerontology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore and University of Maryland Baltimore County in 2022. Her work focuses on the quality of care interactions for older adults with dementia across all care settings. This research has included assessing resident and community factors associated with quality of care interactions, evaluating racial and gender differences in the quality of care interactions, and addressing measurement issues. Dr. McPherson’s ongoing work is to develop an approach to help staff in long-term care provide positive care interactions to residents with dementia and particularly help improve the quality of care the resident receives related to pain during care interactions.
