Sule Yilmaz, PhD

Dr. Sule Yilmaz is a Research Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Rochester Medical Center, with secondary appointments in Emergency Medicine and the Center for Health + Technology in Neurology. She serves as Assistant Director of Quality Improvement and Research for the Palliative Care Research Center and is an Associate Scholar with the UR Medicine Quality Institute.
She completed postdoctoral training in Geriatric Oncology and an NCI-funded T32 fellowship in Cancer Control and holds a PhD in Human Development with a focus on research methodology. Her work focuses on improving care for older adults with serious illness, particularly advanced cancer and dementia, through patient-centered, EHR-integrated interventions in acute care settings.
Using mixed methods and implementation science, Dr. Yilmaz studies communication, prognostic understanding, and care alignment to enhance quality of life and end-of-life experiences. She has authored over 30 peer-reviewed publications, and her work is supported by NIH funding.
