Komal Patel Murali, PhD, RN, ACNP-BC is an assistant professor at NYU Rory Meyers College of Nursing interested in improving transitions to hospice through optimizing care management and health equity for persons living with dementia and their care partners in the home healthcare setting. Currently funded by a NIA IMPACT Collaboratory Career Development Award (U54AG063546), Dr. Murali is exploring barriers to hospice care and developing a health equity focused culturally sensitive care management intervention to enhance transitions to hospice for persons living with dementia and their caregivers. Dr. Murali’s additional line of inquiry is focused on understanding access to caregiving support in faith-based settings for South Asian caregivers of older adults with multiple chronic conditions, which is currently funded by a Rutgers-NYU Center for Asian Health Promotion and Equity (CAHPE) Pilot Grant (P50MD017356-01). Over the next 5 years, Dr. Murali plans to advance her program of research to progress on her pathway to independence as an extramurally funded nurse scientist. Her overall objective is to lead interventional research that advances the development of equity-focused models of serious illness care for older adults living with dementia and multiple chronic conditions and their caregivers across the illness trajectory.
